ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Architect to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our data architecture, ensuring that it meets the needs of our organization and is scalable, secure, and efficient.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Understand the business strategy in depth and translate this strategy into a vision and requirements for the data landscape.
• Design and implement data architecture that supports the needs of the business and is scalable, secure, and efficient.
• Responsible for overseeing and executing ongoing quality development and operations of the data environment and operational data platforms in line with the business strategy.
• Architect the data systems needed for operations, reporting and analytics.
• Ensure this architecture and data outputs meet the key criteria of simplicity, maintainability, data integrity and user enablement. In addition, the architecture must enable hyper-scale and performance, and be secure at all times.
• Ensure a clear, structured data architecture that enables Teams to deliver on the data roadmap.
• Oversee and assist in building data pipelines, data ingestion processes, and development and maintenance of ETL processes and jobs.
• Enable the development of new dashboards and data visualizations to enable the business.
• Assist and manage the development of data marts to enable business self-service.
• Be curious about what insights matter most to business and anticipate data designs and analytics are required to deliver on that.
• Manage consistent definitions of data and ensure comprehensive documentation.
• Understand POPIA and what this means for data security, confidentiality and sharing practices.
• Implement processes and tools to monitor and improve the quality of data, including data cleansing, validation, and enrichment.
• Support and provide guidance on required data governance.
• Investigate new data sources and assess technology, operations, process, and business impact of incorporating data sources into the data landscape.
• Engage with partners to understand the requirements for an open data platform to ensure the right data is shared securely.
• Assist with overseeing the Data Engineering Team, the Data Analytics Team and the Business Intelligence Team. This includes mentoring team members, encouraging skills development, and managing their capacity and priorities in partnership with the Team Leads.
• Ensure quality and timely delivery from the data teams.
• Anything else as required to ensure and maintain the quality of the platform.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Data Architect, with a strong understanding of data architecture principles and best practices.
• Minimum 8 years plus related experience.
• Previous experience in a data-related role such as database administrator, data analyst, or data engineer.
• Experience working with database management systems (DBMS) such (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL etc.), Big Query, and Google Cloud Platform.
• Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing data architecture solutions for complex business requirements.
• Experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements, define data models, and implement data solutions that align with business goals.
