Incubation Lead


Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator is a not-for-profit social enterprise building African solutions for the global challenge of youth unemployment. We work in South Africa and Rwanda with partners who are committed to results that can work at scale – including government, the private sector, civil society, and a network of over 2.5 million youth on our platform,

 As part of that growth, our Impact and Intelligence Unit is looking for a high-performing Incubation and Market Intelligence Lead! The successful candidate will support Harambee’s mission by working under the Head of Funder Partnerships and Strategic Projects to support, implement and operationalize high impact projects in pursuit of our systems change agenda through a whole economy view.

  •  Leading the incubation of new priority growth areas such as; Microenterprise, Agriculture, Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Green Jobs

  • Leading the incubation of new priority growth areas such as; Microenterprise, Agriculture, This incubation will be overseeing the implementation of pilots to support youth in the above areas in collaboration with Harambee team members and external stakeholders

  • Contributing strategic thinking on crucial components of Harambee’s strategy

  • Proposing and building the case for new strategic areas of focus  

  • Developing systems and processes to move successful pilots into effective organizational programs

  • Ensuring close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in grant agreements

  • Coordinating small matrixed teams as required for specific pilots, projects, and partnerships

  • Working with the Head of Funder Partnerships and Strategic Projects to identify and crowd in funding to priority sectors

  • Creating the processes to measure impact across all incubation projects

  • Liaising between different business units at Harambee

  • Working with sector leads to provide research, insights, and data that enables the demand team to meet its objectives for opportunity creation and catalyzation

  • Providing evidence-based data and insights to inform overall and sector-specific demand strategy

  • Collating and packaging market intelligence, data and insights on employment, growth, and key developments in the sectors where we are working to unlock and create youth employment

  • Working with implementing partners to design and implement job creation pilots


Demonstration of your ability through one or more of the following:

  •  Bachelor’s, Honours, or master’s degree

  • 5-8 years professional experience in high-performing teams, including but not limited to non-profits, academia, high-growth startups, management consulting, financial services, or large-scale corporates

  • Demonstrated passion and interest in creating a more equitable world, professionally or through extracurricular activities 


  •  High agency – able to use initiative and take ownership of tasks with moderate to low supervision, even when ambiguous or complex

  • Strong operational background and experience of translating projects from the drawing board into real world activities 

  • Strong and creative problem solving – to manage complexity, generate ideas and be resourceful

  • Robust analytical skills 

  • Experience in collecting, consolidating, and presenting market intelligence  to shape decision making

  • Excellent administrative skills 

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize among competing priorities while maintaining alignment with various stakeholders

  • Outstanding verbal communication skills that can provide clarity and persuade

  • Adequate written skills to effectively communicate to stakeholders ranging from funder partners, the executive team and colleagues

  • Ability to effectively utilize the Microsoft Office suite

  • Joy at the prospect of building new systems
